Florida elections in 2027 and 2028

Tampa elects its mayor on March 2, 2027, with a runoff on April 27, and Jacksonville holds its first election on March 23, 2027, with a runoff on May 18. In 2028, Florida's presidential preference primary falls on March 21, the third Tuesday in March under state law, and Florida's Class 3 U.S. Senate seat is on the November ballot. Florida has five of the country's top 45 media markets: Tampa, Orlando, Miami, West Palm Beach and Jacksonville.

What field programs in Florida need to know

Florida field programs run under tight rules. Third-party voter registration organizations must register with the state and deliver applications within 10 days, with fines for every late application. A 2026 law requiring proof of citizenship to register takes effect January 1, 2027 and is being challenged in court. For ballot measures, the 2025 petition law (HB 1205) requires anyone collecting more than 25 signed petitions to register with the state and complete training, and requires forms to be turned in within 10 days. Parts of the law, including its residency and citizenship requirements for circulators, have been challenged in federal court, so check the current status before you staff a drive. Constitutional amendments need 60% of the vote to pass. Compliance has to be built into every shift.
